Symposium venues


The symposium venues are mostly located in the central business district.

The conference and the performances of Endgame will be held in the Wharf Theatre Complex on Sydney Harbour which is home to the world renknowned Sydney Theatre Company. The world premiere of the 50th anniversary production of Waiting for Godot will be held in the Belvoir St Theatre, located in Surry Hills, an inner city area.

All venues are accessible by public transport. Most venues have disabled access and facilities although some venues require prior notice - if you will require disabled access please indicate this when you register.

Sydney Wharf Theatre Complex, Sydney

The Beckett Conference and the Sydney Theatre Company production of Endgame will be held at the Sydney Wharf Theatre Complex, located at Pier 4/5 Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay on Sydney Harbour.

How to get there:

On foot: the Wharf Theatre is about a 20 minute walk from Circular Quay. The easiest route to walk is along the harbour foreshore, past the Museum of Contemporary Art, past the Park Hyatt Hotel, under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and around the corner. Map

By bus: there are no direct bus routes to the Wharf. However you can catch the 431 or 433 bus (direction: Miller's Point) and alight at the end of George St, just under the Sydney Harbour Bridge (near the Harbour View Hotel). Cross the road, turn right and go down the Downshire Steps to Pottinger St and Hickson Rd. Turn left and it's a few minutes walk to the Wharf.

By car: there is limited metered parking available in the area. The Wharf does not have a carpark.

Sydney Town Hall, Sydney

The Keynote Public Lecture will be held at Sydney Town Hall, one of Sydney most well-known buildings, located at 483 George St, Sydney in the heart of the central business district

How to get there:

On foot: Town Hall is about a 10 minute walk from the Southern Cross Hotel

By bus: any George St service will stop at Town Hall

By train: Town Hall railway station

By car: there is no street parking available on George St and parking restrictions apply in the surrounding streets. The nearest parking station is under the Queen Victoria Building and there are several more stations in Kent St.

Belvoir St Theatre, Surry Hills

The premiere of Waiting for Godot will be held at the Belvoir St Theatre, located at 25 Belvoir Street Surry Hills.

How to get there:

On foot: the theatre is about a 20 minute walk from Central Station

By bus: ring 131 500 for details

By car: there is limited street parking available in the Surry Hills area and parking restrictions apply in many streets, including side streets. The theatre does not have a carpark.

State Theatre, Sydney

Beckett on Film and the talk by Michael Colgan will be held at the State Theatre,one of Sydney's icons located at 47 Market St Sydney, in the heart of the central business district.

How to get there:

On foot: the State theatre is about a 15 minute walk from the Southern Cross Hotel

By bus: the theatre is located about 50-100 metres for major bus interchanges at Castlereagh, Elizabeth, George & York Streets.

By train: Town Hall or St.James railway station

By car: there is no street parking available on George St and parking restrictions apply in the surrounding streets. The nearest parking station is under the Queen Victoria Building and there are several more stations in Kent St.
