Information:

This section provides extensive information to assist you as an employer to understand the rights and responsibilities of employees with a disability and the role of an employer in developing fair and equitable workplaces for all employees, including employees with a disability.

Disability Legislation and Employment

This section provides you with information about the current legislation and government requirements relating to disability, including:

  • Disability Discrimination Act (1992)
  • NSW Anti-Discrimination Act (1997)
  • Building Code of Australia

Disability Disclosure in Employment

Disability disclosure in the workplace is a personal decision for some and an essential process for others. The section provides information for employers about:

  • the options a person with a disability has when deciding to disclose a disability, the benefits and disadvantages of disclosing as well as providing some key considerations to achieving effective disclosure
  • the rights, roles and responsibilities of employers when an employee discloses a disability in employment.

Dispelling the Myths and Stereotypes

Many employers have stereotyped views about employing people with disabilities which are often incorrect. A number of studies have demonstrated that such views are wrong and that people with disabilities can and do succeed in employment.
